Critical areas when setting angular gemstones such as princess cut diamonds are the edges of the gemstones themselves and the corners of the settings. In order to avoid damaging the edges of the gemstones when fitting them into square bezel settings, for example, it makes sense to optimise the setting to the geometry of the gemstones.
